RV7 Flight to Johnson Creek, ID

On July 1, 2014, the guys flew to Johnson Creek, Idaho, Idaho’s premiere air strip …

The guys–Mike, Vince and Steve, builders of an RV6, an RV7, and an RV8, flew into the Idaho back country, leaving their wives at home. More specifically, they flew into Johnson Creek, the premiere airstrip of Idaho’s fabulous array of back country strips. None of the guys had ever flown into Johnson Creek, which was one of the reasons they wanted to do it alone the first time. They said they needed to test their mountain flying skills without their wives getting scared as they descended into the narrow canyon to land. Of course, maybe that was an excuse. Maybe they wanted a guys’ day out. The day included getting to know other friendly pilots, many of whom had also built RVs, a hike up to the hot springs to cool off in the bathtub, a nap under the wings of their respective airplanes, and driving the courtesy car into Yellow Pine for dinner. The hike was quite arduous, a rocky, 500′ ascent. It was also very hot–80 degrees. When they got there, they debated whether to strip off their clothes and hop in the tub filled with water from the hot springs. I mean, really. These guys are 57, 62, and 65 years old. It was unlike them so do such a thing … Except that they did!  (Not all at the same time.) I am under oath not to share the hilarious photos. But here are some other great pictures!
